Default Melamine dishes

I have some of the melamine dishes, bright colored ones with the lunch plates in the stripes and the dinner plates were solid colors. I seem to recall you could not put these in the microwave. Does anyone know for sure? I am selling them at my garage sale this weekend and don't want to sell them under false advertisement

Melamine is not microwave safe. It should say that on the bottom.

However, I have watched my husband use the All American set in the microwave - after strict instructions not to do so - and they have come out fine.

Yes,they might for a while but one day that plate will break in into chunks. Luckily this was a cheapie in my experience, not my LB Patriotic melamine. They also get hot, and maybe leach chemicals but not sure about that part.

Melamine will become heated in a microwave and the food will not be as hot as you'd expect. The longer you leave it in the hotter it will get. It can get as hot as 500 degrees. Eventually it will delaminate and could basicly explode in the microwave.

No explosions please! My FIL exploded a few baked beans and it started a fire inside the microwave!

Thanks all. I did sell the set at my garage sale this past weekend to a very nice lady that wanted them for her daughter. I let her know they were not to be used in the microwave. She seemed pleased to get them.
