Basically, you get a bunch of vendors together, each with so many products (in Sunday's-we each need 5 products). Customers purchase a paddle (a paint stick with a number on) that has a number on it. The number is put into a container. When an item comes up to bid, you're given the description as well as the # of quarters you need to bid. All items are 1 to 4 quarters. If you want to bid on an item, you put your quarter(s) in a container on your table and raise your paddle. If your number is drawn, you win that item. I was at one last week and won a necklace, bracelet and earrings worth $45 for 50 cents. Then I won a tote filled with some scrapbooking items and $5 worth of quarters for 25 cents. The vendor gets to keep the quarters they earn. In this case, we each donate 1 item that raffle tickets are sold for. It cost me $20 to do this plus the one item and also, I must donate $5 worth of quarters to be used for a door prize. The items I'm using are the small square serving basket, filled, the Bunny Teapot, a travel mug, an Easter tote from the Homestead and a paprika pillar candle holder with a So Rachel Candle. If we have a lot of people there, it will be worth my time so the key is to advertise!

So do I understand this correctly?

1. The most anyone can pay is $1.00 for an item.
2. The person who "donated" the item for raffle gets the 4 quarters ...

How would a consultant make any money?

Oh,.... I get it ... lots of people could bid on one item, the most it's costing THEM is $1... so if at least 20 people bid on a $20 item, you break even. Interesting!

Bet we couldn't do this here in Indiana, especially needing to advertise! ... we have a lottery and very strict rules on events such as this ... but maybe I could incorporate it into an open house some how : )

I could use a clothes pin or popsicle stick for the paint stick, then use the balls in my bingo game to draw the winning number from.

How do you, as a vendor, make money at this event? Or..is it considered a donation and you just are getting your name "out there"?

It sounds like fun.

The vendor gets the $20 that it cost me to do it, plus they raffle or auction off the donated items. A lot of times they do a 50/50 and they usually have food to offer. The consultant hopes to get enough bids to pay for the items she bought plus the $20 it cost her to participate. This is the first one I'm doing so I'll let you know how I make out. Wish me luck!

Well, the quarter auction is over. I made close to $100 in profit so I was very pleased with that. I also won the 50/50 and that came to $107. so that was good too! I would do it again if asked but I don't think I'd organize one. I think the organizations make more money with the bingos.
